Filton residents have been urged to remain vigilant following a break-in at Elm Park Leisure Centre where masked individuals smashed the cafe window and stole a number of items.
It has been reported that during the incident on June 25, thieves stole tablets, tools, a speaker and some retail stock from the cafe.
All tablets were accessed remotely and wiped.
The incident occurred at around 3am and the leisure centre was reopened by 1pm.
The centre’s intruder alarm was serviced two weeks prior to the break-in and there is clear CCTV of the entire incident.
Since the incident further building security measures have been identified and planned, however the costs in damages will affect profitability for the month.
The windowpane has also since been replaced.
The break-in follows a bout of incidents around Elm Park. The issues typically relate to the use of electric and Surron bikes, where perpetrators ride off at speed upon seeing police.
To combat this, extra patrols will be conducted in the area.
It has been reported that communication is being had with other departments to assist with the ongoing issues.
Filton Town Council is also installing gates on certain Elm Park entrances to tackle the issue.
Over recent months Avon and Somerset Police has been monitoring theft at Shield Retail Park. The local beat team have been holding surgeries in the area and distributing QR codes to local shops to “improve and streamline the process of reporting thefts”. As a result, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of incidents being reported to the police.
Avon and Somerset Police were due to carry out a shoplifting operation, however due to staffing levels this has not yet taken place.
Crime statistics for the month show a large decrease in all areas, apart from burglary.
