Filton residents came together last month over coffee to discuss their local area — what they love and what can be improved.
Improved cycling infrastructure, better access to Bristol Parkway station, more affordable housing and a revitalised high street were among the top priorities residents highlighted.
The coffee meet-up, held at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Filton, was organised by the Labour MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke Claire Hazelgrove.
The event brought together residents, councillors, and community figures to discuss what constituents love about Filton and how the area can be made a better place to live.
This was the fifth ‘Coffee with Claire’ event since the MP’s election ten months ago.
These run in conjunction to Claire’s monthly in-person advice surgeries, weekly door knocking sessions, work in Westminster and daily work supporting residents.
Attendees gathered over tea, coffee, and biscuits to choose and explore their top local priorities with their MP, Filton South Gloucestershire councillors Adam Monk and Alex Doyle, Filton Town councillors Tom Mewies and John Baverstock.
Priorities included transport, housing and green spaces.
Filton’s strengths included its green spaces, strong community spirit, and local transport links.
Claire Hazelgrove MP said: “Filton is a vibrant and proud community, and it was fantastic to see residents come together to share what they already love about Filton, alongside their hopes for the area. From transport links to housing, green spaces to the high street, the passion and ideas shared were inspiring – and the conversations very useful.
“I believe in breaking down barriers between elected representatives and the people we serve. These open community events are not party political, they are about listening, learning, and working together to shape the future of our communities.”
