Candidates for the Conygre ward byelection – May 14th

Editor’s note – profiles have been published in the order they were received. There are two seats up for grabs and four candidates declared.

Mac Elmorssy, Labour

Hi, I’m Mac Elmorssy and I’m proud to be running for local councillor for the Conygre Ward.

I have lived here for 22 years, my entire life, and this community has not just been a home to me but to my family roots as well. My grandfather first arrived in Conygre to open his green grocer’s shop, Conygre Stores, in the 1970s. Since then, my family has been strongly based in Filton.

I believe Conygre deserves stronger representation and real, responsible reinvestment. I am committed to building a close relationship with South Gloucestershire Council to ensure our ward gets the attention it needs, especially when it comes to delivering on road quality and local infrastructure.

Our residents will see real benefits from council decisions; from new green spaces and park development expanding Filton’s cultural hub to street cleaning to ensure that our neighbourhood remains a place people are proud to call home.

In addition, the rising cost of living is affecting families more than ever. I will fight to keep the council tax precept at a reasonable level, ensuring residents receive fair support and the area receives fair growth without financial strain.

As a resident of Filton, we are all in this together and we will make a real difference. I care deeply about this community because it is my home, and I am committed to working hard for the people of the Conygre Ward.

Andy Mills, Labour

I have been living in Filton for the past 4 years and previously lived in Kingswood all my life. I have connections with the local area, as I previously studied at Filton College (now known as SGS College) to obtain a degree in Business and Financial Management.

If I was elected as a Filton Town Councillor then my goals would be to achieve the following results for people in living in Filton (Conygre Ward):

  • Promoting pride in the local area as a safe place, thriving and with a pleasant place to live, work and play for our younger children.
  • Reduce crime, disorder and drug and alcohol misuse in the local area.
  • Improve the quality of life of people in the local area by identifying community aspirations, needs and local priorities.
  • Develop the ideas of local people into projects that tackle local issues and meet their own needs.
  • Empowering local people to have a greater voice and influence over local decisions by increasing their strength, capacity and engagement of the local community.

Sitha Rama Raju Narayanasetty, Reform UK

In Conygre ward in Filton, residents have seen ongoing issues with street safety, youth support, lighting, and cleanliness that haven’t been fully addressed in recent years.

I’m standing to change that—working for safer streets with better lighting and community policing, more youth clubs to support and engage young people, and a cleaner neighbourhood we can all take pride in.

As an IT consultant, I bring a practical, problem-solving approach to deliver real results and ensure your voice leads to action.

Christopher Lee, Reform UK

As an Aerospace Engineer, having worked locally for many years, I feel the Industry Lifeblood.

In addition as a Cost Engineer, I want to stand for the Reform UK Party to apply that discipline to local finances.

Filton has European connections, not just through its Industry, but with Twin Towns, St.Valier in France and Witzenhausen in Germany, which will enhance our influence in the “Town of Culture” aspirations.
