Lights, camera, action: council launch new consultation into Kenmore Drive traffic restrictions

A long-running debate over the effectiveness of the part-time no-entry restriction on Kenmore Drive has resurfaced after South Gloucestershire Council confirm they have removed the current restriction and started a new consultation from 1 May.

The previous restriction banned entry Monday to Friday from 3.45pm to 5.30pm to prevent the road from being used as a rush hour cut-through. However, residents have questioned the effectiveness of the system and if it had been working as intended.

Last year, a resident told the Filton Voice that “dozens of vehicles” continued to use the road during the restricted hours. He questioned whether the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera was functioning correctly and whether the fines were being issued.

South Gloucestershire Council have since confirmed that the prior restriction will be removed in order to effectively collect evidence, data and feedback before potentially consulting on a future restriction.

A spokesperson said: “To help quantify the true scale of the problem and gain the right evidence to reach the best solution, the existing restriction will be removed to allow data collection in an unrestricted scenario.

“We hope to implement a modified widely acceptable solution as soon as possible and thank you in advance for your comments and patience”.

A formal public consultation opened on 1 May and runs until 5 June . Residents are encouraged to share their views on the matter by completing an online questionnaire.

The questionnaire can be accessed via the council’s website: www.southglos.gov.uk/consultation, or by requesting a paper copy by calling 01454 864789.
