Major maintenance work on the A38 Gloucester Road flyover is under way, with disruption ongoing until December.
The work is planned around the Gipsy Patch Lane junction, with various lane closures and full closures of the flyover scheduled.
There will be a full closure of the flyover to coincide with the summer school holiday, scheduled for July 28 to August 15, and for two individual nights in June and August, but a date is still to be confirmed for these closures.
Both northbound and southbound slip roads will be reduced to one lane only for the duration of the eight month project. And there will be varying turning restrictions, the suspension of some on-street parking spaces and the temporary relocation of the northbound slip lane bus stop.
Access under the flyover will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists. The work is underway due to the flyover, which was built in 1978, needing “significant work” to ensure it can remain in use without permanent weight restrictions.
Information shared by South Gloucestershire Council stated: “We are phasing the work to minimise disruption as much as possible, however there will inevitably be some disruption to traffic, and journey times may increase.
“Activity on site is being limited to weekdays between 8am and 5pm with a small amount of occasional evening and overnight working.
The work is scheduled to be completed by December 2025, however this timeframe is subject to change.
