Filton Community Garden
Filton’s community garden and its popular annual festival are among the first grassroots organisations to benefit from a new fund awarded by the developer behind the Brabazon project.
Each of the four recipients, which also include a community kitchen and a community centre in Patchway, receive a slice of a £1,000 grant from the Brabazon Community Fund, established to help local groups that are having a positive social impact across the region.
Launched earlier this year by YTL Developments — which is transforming the former Filton Airfield into Brabazon — the fund awards £250 each month to initiatives helping strengthen community connections, tackle isolation, and support residents.
One of the recipients of the award, which allowed them to purchase a hot composter bin to accelerate compost production throughout the year.
Jason Young, chair, said: “It takes the garden around a year to produce decent compost for use around the garden. It is vital now with the hotter and drier summers, and for protecting plants during cold spells.
“The hot composter will create the nutrient-rich compost we need in just 30-90 days. It will also save us money as there’ll be no need to buy bags of compost, mulch or liquid plant feed.”
Filton Festival used the funds to make this year’s event even bigger and better.

Jacob Gough, director of DC Event Production, which organised the event this year, said: “This funding is incredibly important to the delivery of Filton Festival 2026. It has helped us to provide children and youth activities for free at the event but also has started a new relationship with Brabazon, a major development for the area. All of which shows how important the festival is to the local community.”
Also benefiting were the Aura Ion Foundation, a project supporting people on low incomes in Patchway and the Coniston Community Centre.
