Local area reflected in bus stop change

A long-standing bus stop in Filton has officially been renamed Elm Park, following agreement by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) that the previous name no longer reflected the area it serves.

The stop, formerly known as Filton Police Station, has already been updated on the First Bus app and new bus stop signage has been installed, meaning passengers will now see and hear the new name when planning journeys and using services. Further updates to timetables, mapping tools and wider transport information systems will follow in due course.

The original Filton Police Station closed many years ago and the site has since been redeveloped into housing, making the former stop name increasingly outdated and potentially confusing, particularly for visitors and new residents.

The new name, Elm Park, reflects the surrounding residential area and was chosen to provide a clearer, more accurate reference point for bus users.

South Gloucestershire Council has confirmed that the ordering and installation of revised bus stop flags has been completed, with the name change implemented across live passenger facing systems as a priority.

A council spokesperson said the update would improve clarity and wayfinding, ensuring that stop names match recognisable current landmarks and neighbourhoods.

The Elm Park name applies to both the northbound and southbound bus stops.

Passengers are advised to check the First Bus app or local signage when travelling, while remaining updates are rolled out across the network.
