A Filton back lane which has been a magnet for burglars, drug dealers, fly tippers and other anti-social behaviour could soon have gates installed to improve security.
The residents of 61 homes in Charles Road, Filton Avenue and Hunters Way say the gates are much needed.
Campaigners have gathered support from residents and have now raised £2,500 to pay for the gates.
At a meeting of Filton Town Council, councillors agreed to fund half of the overall cost of £5,000 if the residents could fund the remainder.
The gates would protect three entrances to the lane in Charles Road and one in Filton Avenue.
There is no entrance in Hunters Way but several homes back on to the lane.
The lane has been targeted by fly tippers in the past and in one case, rubbish and five fridge freezers from a rental home have been dumped in the lane.

The campaigners said that a previous tenant of the rental home in question had also dumped a car in the lane and it has remained there for several months. South Glos Council has said they cannot remove rubbish as it is a private lane.

Campaigner Lesley Taylor said: “Following break-ins during March, quite a few of the community’s residents and landlords have paid into a community account to pay for four security gates. We are really looking forward to the benefits this will bring – security, obviously, but also an end to the drug dealing, dog fouling and other problems.
“Our children will have a safe space to play and the lane will have much more of a community feel about it.”
To secure lane gates, which will have a numerical entry code available only to residents, the campaigners require permission from all 61 homeowners.
