Abbeywood class of 2024 successful despite Covid disruption

The class of 2024 at Abbeywood Community School have achieved strong GCSE results, with grades 7-9 across a wide range of subjects, as well as many 5-9 grades in English and Maths.

Nearly 80% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English, and 67% of students secured a grade 4-9 in both English and Maths, and there was positive progress overall. These results also represent improved attainment from last year.

As spokeswoman said: “Following on from a very successful set of 2024 A Level and vocational results last week (see opposite page), it is great to see another set of strong GCSE results, including some outstanding Engineering results.”

Headline figures this year continue an upward trajectory, and Headteacher Ben Dilley commented: “I am delighted with the performance of our Year 11 students and so proud of their response to the interruptions in learning they have faced because of COVID.

“These excellent results are a reflection of their ability to respond positively to high quality teaching and demonstrate the Abbeywood values of ambition, confidence and success.
